BAHNBETREIBSWERK (BW) MEINEKE

This is the club’s HO scale, German outline layout and is set in a fluid period from the 1930s through to the end of steam in Germany. It conforms to German railway practice but to no particular design, though is influenced by Prussian practice.

The layout depicts a large locomotive facility, or Bahnbetriebswerk, able to service steam, both coal and oil fired, and diesel engines. It features a large roundhouse, served from an operating turntable, an operating section turntable and working semaphore signals.

The layout was exhibited as an end to end layout at the 2009 Spalding exhibition and has since been rebuilt as a continuous run with a fiddle yard at the rear. All track is Peco code 75 and the trains are controlled using an analogue system that allows the main running lines to be worked independently of the loco yard itself.

A very unusual visitor to the German layout!
