Nelson

Nelson was a busy cotton town in East Lancashire served by the East Lancashire Railway. As well as the station there were extensive goods facilities that catered for the traffic generated by the cotton mills as well as goods from the local farms and merchandise for the local Co-ops. Passengers were well served by frequent services to Blackburn and Preston and in the 1950's-60's there was an early morning train to London which started at Colne, the next station along the line.

The work of society members, the model shows nelson as it was in the 1950's and incorporates nearly all of the trackwork that existed at the time. many of the surrounding buildings have also been included and we know from comments received, that the model captures the look of Nelson as it was in the good old days.
